TRUBE, OPERATIONS CHIEF SUBjECT: PL3RCHP.SE OF THERMAL IMAGING CAMERAS DATE: 8/2/Ot CC: JAMES M. WEINAND, FIRE CHI I am requesting to purchase two Thermal Imaging Cameras and related hardware for the Fire Department out of the Fire Department Capital Outlay, Machinery and Equipment Account, having a balance of $89,235.89. We were able to piggyback off of a St. Lucie County/Cobb County, Georgia bid for the purchase of two Thermal Imaging Cameras at a cost of $31,772 from As Fire Supply Inc. The cost of two cameras would normally run between $42,000 and $50,000. A Thermal Imaging Camera is designed to show heat sources such as people, or hidden fire. For the First time in history fireEghters can see through the smoke to locate missing people and hidden fire. We can locate and confine the fire faster and detect hidden hot spots that may not be seen by the naked eye. The speed at which firefighters can search a building or find the fire is increased, thereEore property damage is reduced, and lives are saved. See related article #1 "Camera helps find toddler in blaze" The Palm Beach Post. Firefighters serving on the Rapid Intervention Team will have a tool that will increase the odds of an injured or trapped firefighter being rescued. A Thermal Tmaging Camera can be considered a Force multipliet because it allows our Officers to place their personnel in the right place at the right time. The First camera will be used by our initial attack crew to determine the location oF the fire and to conduct an unmediate search of the building. The second camexa provides for firefighter safety and is considered an integral part of the Rapid Intervention Team. See the related article #2 "Managing the Fire Ground Mayday" The Voice. In many documented cases, personnel operating outside oF a structure fire were able to see a build up of heat prior to flashover and direct interior personnel either to saFery or to the location for quick extinguishments. In conclusion, the thermal imager is an excellent tool that provides informacion that is othenvise unavailable to Firefighters. The information is then transformed into better decisions, which lead to conservation of life and property. The fact that vision is restored, increases fireFghter saEety. I hope you see the great benefit thae these devices will have on the safety of our firefighters, citizens and visitors of the Village of Tequesta. IE you concur with this request, please forward this to the next Village Councit Meeting for their approval.
