' Memorandum
To: Michael R. Couzzo, Jr., Village Manager
From: Gary Preston, Director of Public Works & Recreation ,
Date: January 29, 2001
Subject: Village Council Agenda Item for February 8, 2001;
Consideration of Contract Award to William H. Murphy
General Contractor, Inc., in the amount of $28,803, for
Renovations to the Tequesta Recreation Center, Having a
FY 2000/2001 Capital Improvement Proposed Intra Fund
Transfer of $35,000
Please find attached, a proposal from William H. Murphy General Contractor, Inc., in the
amount of $28,803 for renovations to the Tequesta Recreation Center. These renovations are
required by the State of Florida Health Department before the Village can offer an after school
pragram. The renovation plans were prepared by Randy Hansen, AIA, INTER•PLAN, INC..
I have also attached a letter from Mr. Hansen, dated January 27, 2001, advising the Village
that the $28,803 is a reasonable bid for the proposed work.
William H. Murphy informed me this work could begin on or about March 15, 2001 and be
completed within six (6) weeks. Mr. Murphy has provided renovation/remodeling work on
several Village of Tequesta buildings and I would recommend the Village Council accept this
proposal.
This project was scheduled for completion in the last fiscal year and funds were not
allocated in FY 2000/2001 for the renovations. The Village Council did allocate $35,000
in FY 2000/2001 for irrigation and well improvements to Tequesta Park. The Tequesta Park
irrigation improvements would require approval from South Florida Water Management
District, which is unlikely this fiscal year due to water restrictions. Since these funds are
available, I would recommend a Capital Improvement Intra Fund transfer from Tequesta Park
Irrigation Improvements to Tequesta Recreation Center Renovations in the amount of
$35,000.
Please place this item on the February 8, 20Q1 Village Council Meeting Agenda for
Councilmembers' consideration.

RESEARCH Dear Mr. Preston
CONTRACT I have reviewed the proposal submitted by William H. Murphy General
ADMINISTRATION Contractor, Inc. regarding the above referenced project. The proposal appears
ACCESSIBILITY to cover the scope of work as designed in the drawings prepared by our
CONSULTANT OfflCe.
AAC 390 The proposed bid of $28,603.00 is a reasonable bid for the proposed work.
As I indicated to you, I had contacted several contractors, all of which
indicated they were too busy at this time to bid this project. Unfortunately, as
you know, construction activity has been very high for the past few years and
trying to find contractors who are willing to bid smaller projects has been
difficult.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you on this project. If you should
have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time.
 Sincerely,
Inte Plan IRc
