TNse•✓ Date: January 5, 2001 Subject: Village Council Agenda Item for January 11, 2001; Utility Infrastructure Maintenance Repairs/Alterations with , Dawson- Williams, Inc., In the Amount Not to Exceed $7,500 The Utility Infrastructure System (Water and Stormwater) routinely experiences situations whereby a repair or alteration of the systern is needed. In many instances, Village staff ; attempts to make the repair/alteration themselves. In some cases though, staffing and equipment type limits the Village as to the magnitude of a job that can be taken on. When these instances occur, it is in the Village's best interest to make the repair/alteration as soon as possible so that service is not disrupted or the safety of the public is not jeopardized. For small repairs/alterations, typically in the $1,000 to $7,000 range, it is very difficult to locate a srnall contracting firm that has any interest in performing the work. Over the years, Dawson-Williams, Inc., has performed these small tasks for the Village. To better facilitate this work, it is recommended that the Village have under contract Dawson-Williams, Inc. to perform these repairs/alterations that arise. Attached is a Resolution for placement on the January 11"' Council Meeting. This would allow staff to utilize Dawson-Williams, Inc. up to an amount of $7,500 per task with your approval. Each task would be itemized based upon Dawson-Williams' hourly rates as shown on their proposal attached to the Resolution. The applicable task would be funded through the appropriate line item budget relative to the water or stormwater utility system maintenance item. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
