MEMORANDUM
:l F
' Village of Tequesta
Cierk's Office
TO: Village Manager Couzzo, Mayor and Village Council Members
FROM: Lori McWilliams, MMC, Village Clerk
DATE: February 2, 2015
SUBJECT: Municipal Election Canvassing Board
The Village's Code of Ordinances (Sec. 2-232) stipulates that the village council by
resolution shall provide that one councilmember, which may include the mayor, whose
position is either not scheduled to be voted upon or who is unopposed at the election
being canvassed, shall be made a member of the village canvassing board.
The following council members are eligible to serve as a Canvassing Board Member:
• Council Member Vince Arena
• Council Member Steve Okun
• Council Member Frank D'Ambra
Should Council Members Brennan and Paterno remain unopposed, there will not be an
election and the item is moot. However, if one of them remains unopposed, that
Counci! Member would be eligible to serve on the canvassing board.
Canvassing of an election is an important procedure following an election in which the
canvassing board publicly canvasses the absentee electors' ballots and provisional
ballots as provided by State Statute. Additionally, in the unlikely event of a contested
electian, the canvassing board meets to publicly canvass all election ballots.
This item is being placed on the agenda at this time, however, I will provide an update
following the February 10, 2015 close of qualifying.
McWilliams, Lori
