Re: PERSONNEL REQUEST — MILITARY TO MAIN STREET GRADUATES
While this topic has been broached before I would like to once again bring this request forward
for your consideration. It has certainly generated a lot of discussion over the past few months.
Since it was not acted upon at the Council Meeting where it was originally placed on the
agenda I would like to respectFully request it be placed on the next available Council workshop
agenda for even further discussion and a final definitive action.
I would recommend bringing on at least one of our current Military to Main Street oicers who
remain in the program (three as of today) effective July 1, 2015 and the other on October 1,
2015 (which can be discussed during the normal budget process).
The department will use federal asset forfeiture funds (permissible use) for the remainder of
the current fiscal year if the hiring of the first officer is anticipated to be approved in the next
fiscal year (2015-2016). As you may recall the presentation I made to the Council about
one year ago showed a proposed growth of one officer over the next four years. This
would bring the department to an authorized strength of 24 (one less than approximately
10 years ago) by FY2018.
Attached is an updated table of organization showing how these positions would
supplement our current patrol schedule (effective 10/01/2015). These positions would permit
an even greater presence during the aftemoon and evening hours when calls for service
generally increase. The additional flexibility of moving them forward to cover a day shift or
back to cover a night shift when necessary would also help maintain adequate patrol
coverage in the Village on a more consistent basis and could help reduce the need for
overtime expenditures on occasion.
Thank you fo your consideration of my request.
