AN ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF
TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, PROVIDING AN INCREASE IN THE ANNLJAL
SALARY FOR VILLAGE COUNCIL MEMBERS; PROVIDING THAT SAID
SALARY INCREASE SHALL NOT BE EFFECTIVE DURING THE
CURRENT TERM OF ANY COUNCIL MEMBER 1N ACCORDANCE WITH
SECTION 2.01 OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA CHARTER; PROVIDING
A CONFLICTS CLAUSE AND SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Village Council Members currently receive a per diem allowance of
$250.00 per month; and
WHEREAS, said per diem allowance was originally set and established in 1998 and has
never been adjusted since then; and
WHEREAS, Section 2.01 of the Charter of the Village of Tequesta. provides that Village
Council Members are entitled to an annual salary to be set by ordinance, but that any increase in
said salary shall not be effective during the current term of any Council Member; and
WHEREAS,� the Village Council desires to increase the current $250.00 monthly
allowance to $600.00 per month, with automatic 2% annual increases thereafter, in order to
reflect inflation and cost of living increases that have been realized between 1998 and the present
time, and which will continue to be realized into the future; and
WHERERAS, the Village Council believes that adoption of such salary increases, to be
effective after the conclusion of the current terms for each council seat, is in the best interests of
the Village of Tequesta..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1: The Village Council of the Village of Tequesta hereby establishes the
following salary increases for the Mayor and all Council Members, pursuant to Section 2.01 of
the Village Charter:
The Mayor and a11 Council Members of the Village of Tequesta sha11 receive an annua.l
salary equal to Six Hundred Dollars ($600.00) per month.

In addition, the salary for the Mayor and all Council Members shall automatically
increase by 2% annually efFective April 1 of each year, beginning in 2017. The Council
salary rate increases through the year 2025 are attached hereto as E�ibit A.
Section 2: The above salary increases that are in excess of the current monthly
allowance of Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00) per month shall become effective
immediately upon the expiration of the current terms for each council seat, pursuant to Section
2.01 of the Village Charter. Likewise, each subsequent 2% increase shall become effective
immediately upon the expiration of the current terms for each council seat, pursuant to Section
2.01 of the Village Charter.
Section 3: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same
are hereby repealed.
Section 4: Should any section or provision of this ordinance or any portion thereof,
any paragraph, sentence or word be declared by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid,
such decision shall not affect the validity of the remainder of this ordinance.
Section 5: This ordinance sha11 take effect October 1, 2015.

Council salary rates will increase to $600.00 on April 1, 2016. Additionally there will
be a 2% annual increase in rates to be paid to each Councilmember beginning in the
first month after the Council seat is (elected) re-elected. Exampies below.
