This order consists of the following numbered sections:
I. REQUESTS
PURPOSE:
To establish a policy for the use of Police Department members and equipment at charitable and other
private functions.
SCOPE:
This order applies to all Police Department members.
DISCUSSION:
Private, non-governmental groups and organizations occasionally schedule functions to raise money
for charitable purposes. They sometimes request the assignment of Police Department members and equipment to
provide security and traffic control at no charge to the organization.
POLICY:
It is the policy of the Police Department that no members or agency equipment will be used without charge at
private functions. Agency members and equipment may be used only if the activity is incidental to the private function
and affects the public at large. Nothing in this order prohibits off duty members from performing extra duty work at
private, non-governmental functions for the purpose of providing security, traffic control, or other law enforcement
purposes not prohibited by the agency.
