PURPOSE:
To ensure security within Tequesta Police Department facilities.
SCOPE:
This order applies to all Police Department members, visitors, and volunteers.
DISCUSSION:
Based on the nature of police work, it is vital that security be maintained within law enforcement and
correctional facilities. To provide a safe environment for all concerned, it is necessary that all members, employees,
volunteers, and visitors are identifiable while on the premises.
POLICY:
All persons will be identifiable while on Police Department property.
PROCEDURE:
I. IDENTIFICATION:
The Administrative Specialist will issue an identification card to members and volunteers to
show the individual's duty status within the agency. The card will bear the individual's photograph, ID number, and date
of hire.
A. Member Identification:
All full and part time members shall carry their identification card or badge, if not in
uniform, when on Police Department premises.

Members will report to the Administrative Specialist for a new identification card immediately following a name
change.
2.
Members will report lost identification cards to their division commander via a memorandum. The division
commander will take appropriate action and forward a copy of the memorandum to the Administrative Specialist to
authorize a replacement.
4.
The individual will return the identification card to the Administrative Specialist upon separation of employment.
B. Volunteer Identification:
The Administrative Specialist will issue agency volunteers the same type
identification card, but the card will display "VOLUNTEER" in bold letters.

C. Visitor Identification:
All visitors/vendors must identify themselves and the nature of their visit with the
receptionist at the front desk of the Tequesta Police Department facility. The receptionist will record the time, date,
visitor/vendors name, the visitor/vendor card number which was issued, and purpose of the visit in the visitor/vendors
log before allowing entry.

Visitors/vendors must return their card to the front desk prior to departure. The receptionist will record the time
departed, when the visitor leaves.
2.
Visitors must be escorted to and from their destination in the Police Department facility.
3.
No entry will be allowed to anyone who may be considered a security risk. In such cases, the receptionist should
request assistance from the immediate supervisor.
4.
It is the responsibility of all Police Department members to question the identity of any person on the premises
who is not properly identified.
II. GLOSSARY:
MEMBER - An individual appointed or employed by the Police Department.
VISITOR/VENDOR - A person(s) who has business inside the building.
VOLUNTEER - Civilians who give their time without compensation to assist in the day-to-day workload of the agency.
