PURPOSE:
To establish a policy for the use of Police Department members for leave accrual and usage.
SCOPE:
This order applies to all Police Department members.
DISCUSSION:
The Village of Tequesta offers its employees an allotment of paid leave during their tenure. The
allotted amounts and how they are accrued are dictated within the Village of Tequesta Employee Handbook and/or
applicable Bargaining Unit Agreement.
POLICY:
It shall be the policy of the Tequesta Police Department to allow only one individual per shift, to take leave

at any given time, provided the shift is at full strength and the departments operation will not be disrupted
PROCEDURE:
I.REQUESTS:
A.
Vacation, Compensatory, and Personal time off requests will be completed on the appropriate form and submitted
to your immediate supervisor for approval who will then forward the approved request to the scheduling officer.
In order to be considered, all time off requests shall be submitted at least seventy-two hours in advance of the
requested time off. In the event the required seventy-two hour notification cannot be met, i.e. an emergency or
unexpected need, your shift supervisor may grant the request; ALL leave must be pre-approved.
II. SELECTION:
A. Vacation selections will be approved by seniority on each shift, projected through the year, at the beginning
of each calendar year until March 31 of that year. The seniority counts only for your scheduled shift. After March 31,
any member may request a vacant slot within the shift projection regardless of seniority.
III. SICK LEAVE:
A. Members who are unable to report for duty due to illness will notify their supervisor and/or the on-duty

supervisor in charge at least or no less than two (2) hours before the beginning of their tour of duty.
