2. Restablish Committee Mission and Goals
Village Clerk McWilliams encouraged the Historic Preservation Committee Members to
come up with their own goals, missions and objectives. She reminded them that Ms. Betty
Laur started the archival catalog system and Clerk McWilliams hoped the new committee
members would continue to add to the archives.
3. Review Historical Catalog of Archived Items
Clerk McWilliams revealed that the archives would be moved from the storage unit at the
Village Public Works Facility to Village Hall within the next several weeks. She also
indicated that there was $2500 in the annual budget and that part of the money could be
used for specialized storage boxes for the archives. Clerk McWilliams informed the
Committee that a short history should be included in each box, so that people would be
able to review and understand the contents of each box. She felt that this was a wonderful
resource for schools, universities and other groups with an interest in our local history.
Committee-Chair Pat Watkins suggested the group pay special attention to current articles
in the news and media and to make sure those articles were being preserved. Clerk
McWilliams agreed and added that there were also photos being stored on the Village
Computers that would be available for printing.
Vice-Chair Marcia Nielson asked about the sunshine law and how it would affect the group
working together. Clerk McWilliams assured the committee that she would check with the
Village Attorney for clarification.

Clerk McWilliams suggested the group conduct audio and/or video type interviews with key
members of the local community. She felt this type of historical archive would be
invaluable in the future. Clerk McWilliams believed she could have the room and computer
set up, if given two weeks' notice.
Committee-Chair Pat Watkins shared an idea of the group creating four or five questions to
ask people during their interview.
Alternate member Kevin Cassidy mentioned that Dan Snyder may be a person to contact
and offered to do so for the group. Clerk McWilliams recommended Kathy Greene as a
good contact as well as her mother, Jan Davisson.
Committee-Chair Pat Watkins suggested asking for information on local social media sites
such as Facebook, in Jupiter and Tequesta. Clerk McWilliams agreed and mentioned that
when she placed local vintage photos on Facebook, they seemed to garner a lot of interest
and comments. She reiterated the importance of the committee creating a statement of
their ideas, missions and goals going forward.
4. Schedule Next Meeting
Clerk McWilliams informed the Committee that she would check with Legal and then
schedule the next meeting.

Member Bob Jacks had recently stepped down. She added that there was a possibility for
one of the Alternate Members to move up. Alternate Committee Member Kevin Cassidy
offered to take the position as a regular Historic Preservation Committee Member. Clerk
McWilliams stated that Council would have to approve the change at the next Village
Council Meeting in September.
