RESOLUTION NO. 30-16
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF
TEQUESTA, FLORIDA, CONFIRMING BY PROCLAMATION THE
STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARATION ISSUED ON OCTOBER 5,
2016 FOR THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA DUE TO HURRICANE
MATTHEW, ALL EMERGENCY REGULATIONS ACTIVATED UNDER
THE PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 26 OF THE VILLAGE CODE OF
ORDINANCES, AND THE DESIGNATION OF THE FIRE CHIEF AS
THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR FOR THE VILLAGE
FOR SO LONG AS THE LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY CONTINUES
IN EFFECT, PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, Hurricane Matthew was a major hurricane traveling north through the
central part of the Caribbean Sea; and
WHEREAS,Hurricane Matthew traveled dangerously close to the southeastern region of
Tequesta, South Florida and the southeastern coast of Florida; and
WHEREAS, Hurricane Matthew produced excessive rainfall, damaging winds and
destructive storm surge, causing flooding, fallen trees and power lines necessitating the closure
of the Village of Tequesta and evacuation of residents east of Countty Club Drive,and
WHEREAS, the assistance of the local government is necessary in order to pratect the
public health, preserve the safety of the public, keep property damage to a minimum and restore
the social and economic welfare of our Village and its residents and visitors; and
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA,PALM BEACH COUNTY,FLORIDA,AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 As designated by Section 26-5 of the Village Code of Ordinances, the
Mayar(Mayor Abby Brennan) and Emergency Management Director(Fire Chief Medina) issued
a State of Emergency Declaration on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 for the Village due to
Hurricane Matthew.
Section 2 Section 26-3 of the Village Code of Ordinances designates the Fire Chief
as the Emergency Management Director in order to accomplish all coordination, direction and
implementation of all disaster management functions.
Section 3 Pursuant to Section 26-5 of the Village Code of Ordinances, the Village
Council of the Village of Tequesta hereby confirms by Proclamation the State of Emergency
Declaration issued on October 5, 2016 far the Village of Tequesta due to Hurricane Matthew, all
emergency regulations activated under the provisions of Chapter 26 of the Village Code of
Ordinances, and the designation of the Fire Chief as the Emergency Management Director for
the Village for so long as the local state of emergency cqntinues in effect.
Section 4 This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.
