Subject: Timely Hurricane Matthew Performance Appreciation
Importance: High
Well said, Mike. And I genuinely hope that You and Council find a reciprocal way to extend our collective
appreciation to the entire staff of the Village that truly reflects our pride in their performance in this event.
Possibly a Thank You Celebration in each individual department with lunch & refreshments... or maybe at the
EOC with all staff invited over an extended opportunity for convenient stop-ins. No need for speeches or stuffy
rigidity; simply a powerfully sincere statement of appreciation in a very timely fashion.
No analysis-paralysis. Or, if we snooze, we lose an important opportunity.

Mayor, Council, and Tequesta Employees:
From the Village Manager
With all indications that Hurricane Matthew could have been a storm of
historical proportions, the Village is fortunate to have avoided severe
devastation. Preparation, coordination of personnel and resources is a priority
during these types of events. I would like to recognize and voice appreciation
1
for the efforts of all employees who assisted before, during and post storm;
especially to those who jumped into after the event working to ensure our
residents could return to their homes as quickly and safely as possible.
Chief Medina, while he has only been here a short time, rose to the
occasion leading his team with skill and perfection. Our Fire
Rescuepersonnel provided top quality service keeping people informed and
safe. Pat and Mary stayed last night answering non-stop calls and providing
essential assistance. Peter Allen who worked tirelessly keeping the media
and Clerk updated with up-to-date and correct information.
Chief Elg and Assistant Chief McGrew led their team with ease working
through the night assisting residents with the evacuation efforts and
maintaining order and safety. Our dediated police officers provided
an integral response to residents and helping to calm nerves and assist in
their evacuation efforts.
Sam Heady and ohn Collins stayed to ensure the water utility continued
to run efFiciently without interruption.
Doug Chambers and the Public Works Department were on hand both
before and immediately following the storm removing debris and making sure
the roads were safe to pass so residents could return safely.
The Village Clerk assisted administration by providing essential updates
throughout the process. Just a few stats on the power of social media, our
emergency notification software and website:

and had 172 shares

Village's main page and responded to every person
