Season's greetings! .Another year has flown .by so quickly.. We have seen recbrd numbers of animals admitted to ourwildlife hospital., and a steady increase of visitors to the Sanctua .ry. December 2013 inarked the 30` birthday of our organization, but.2017 marks another rriilestone; the 20` anniversary of the'groundbreaking and subsequent, opening of today'.s Busch Wildlife Sanctuary at Loxa}iatcliee River District (LRD). ' 1Vlany p.e.ople often ask how we eame to be at this site. I� was pure chance and a high school stu whose father worked aC LRD. I did a wildlife presentation back in.'1996 at Jupiter High Scliool:and a young lady in the audience raised her band and asked' where the Sanctuary was located. I smiled and simply replied, "in my back yard in Jupiter Farms". Back then, I spe.ntmy days dividedbetween running around presenting educational programs at schools and to other interested groups, and rescuing and injured wildlife. I did this all out of my back yard. I went on to explain to the student that we were looking for land to build an open-to-the-public facility that would combine a wildlife hospital witha.community nature center. To my surprise, a couple of weeks later I. gof a call asking nie to come to meet with the top dogs at Loxahatchee Ri�er District. They walked me out to a lushly vegetated part of their 160 acre property and asked if that section would suit our needs. Before I knew it, there was a signed tarid use ageement and contractors hammering away. Within less than a year, there was a grand opening with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. I always knew that once we opened our doors to tHe public great things would happen, but no one could have ever predicted that Busch Wil.diife Sanctuary would become one o.f our country"s leadinb environmental education. and wildlife rehabiiitation.facilities. VJe are always trying Co make improvements to the Sanctuary to provide a quality of life. for the animals in our care, as well as a better ;educational experience for ow visitors: With help from people like you, we have created a sancfuary for bofh wildlife and people. In addition to our work caring forinjuied animals, children and adults have the, opportun"ity fo learn about nature �nd wildlife.
