A� RESOLUTION OF THE VII;I:AGE COUNCIL OF THE VII,LAGE OF
TEQUESTA,.FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF TEQUESTA
. �. TO: EXECUTE THE KUTILITY WORK BY HIGHWAY CONTRACTOR.
AGREEMENT'-' WITH THE -STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $19,432.00 REGARDING
GERTAIN UTII,ITY CONFLICT RELOCATION ACTIVITIES IN
CONJUNCTION WITH THE CURRENT U:S. HIGHWAY ONE
RECONFIGURATION �PROJECT _ BETWEEN � ALTERNATE .

AlA/BEACH ROAD AND . COUNTY � LINE' ROAD; PROVIDING AN � �
� -EFFECTIVE DATE, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the Village of Tequesta, Florida, is: a full-service municipality. located .in
northem Pa1m Beach County; and � . , .
WHEREAS the funding has been allocated in the 2017 Budget foi this project; and .
WHEREAS; U.S, .Highway One (US1) is a rosdway controlled by the Florida..
. Department of ' Transportation that traverses the Village of Tequesta from north to south, .
connecting the Town of Jupiter to the south and unincorporated:lVlaitin County to the north; and�
WHEREAS; the �Florida Department of Transportation is currently developing,plans to
resurface andsestripe USl, from Alternate AlA/Beach Road to:County.Line Road, as part of its
regular�long-term maintenance program (see Exhiliit:l); and � �
�` � WHEREAS, US 1 is currently configured as a six-lane facility, with a posted speed limit
of 45 miles .per hour, without bicycle facilities or right-hand tum-lanes, and with multiple
driveways that provide access to Village of Te.questa businesses and destinations; and�
WHEREAS, a reconfi�uration of US 1_ to a facility with four `-`through". lanes. for vehicles
with designated bicycle/tuming lanes_ would provide safer access to Tequesta businesses and
destinations as well as safer accommodations for cyclists; and , �
WHEREAS, a reconfigured US`l would allow the opportunity . for beautification to
improve tlie appearance of the comdor through the Village of Tequesta;. and �
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of . Transportation has developed a"Lane .
Elimination Program" to enable municipalities to request roadways such as US 1 be reconfigured
with fewer ``through" lanes and the re-use of additional lanes . for designated bicycle/turning .
lanes; and
WHEREAS, certain utility faciliries located within the US 1 reconfiguration area are
in conflict with the reconfiguration project and will.require relocation; and
WHEREAS; the Village _Council desires to enter into a"Utility Work by Highway '
Contractor Agreement" with EDOT to a11ow FDOT contractors to perform said utility relocation - -
work at the Village's expense as specified herein.
