The Honorable Jim R. Humpage
Mayor, Village of Tequesta
250 Tequesta Drive
Tequesta, FL 33469
Dear Mayor Humpage:
I am writing on behalf of the Cancer Alliance of Help and Hope, Inc. to request a grant of $2,000
from the Village to help aus purchase computer and related equipment for our organization.
My wife Jean and l founded the Cancer Alliance in October 2003. Our primary mission is to
provide need-based financial assistance to cancer patients and their families who live in Palm
Beach County and/or receive their treatment here, by helping with ordinary day-to-day living
expenses such as mortgage and rent, utilities, auto and health insurance, car payments and
repairs, and travel and food expenses. We have financially assisted over 300 families and paid
out over $365,000 in our short existence, for patients from Pt. St. Lucie to Coral Springs and west
to the Glades.
We are currently an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff, eighteen (18) active Directors,
and have been operating out of Jean's office in Tequesta since our formation, using privately
owned equipment. Most of our volunteers are from the northern part of the county and fourteen
(14} of our Directors are from Jupiter and Tequesta. We receive referrals from a number of
different sources, including the Jupiter Medical Center and the other hospital cancer centers,
American Cancer Society, Hospice of Palm Beach County and Hospice by the Sea, Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society, American Lung Association, and the list goes on.
We have recently signed a lease for space at the Tequesta Commerce Center. Since we were
founded in Tequesta, halve our post office box and office in Tequesta, and serve many patients in
the local area, we would very much like the assistance of the Village to continue to grow and
serve the needy patients in Palm Beach County as they fight this dreaded disease. If you could
put this on the agenda at your next meeting, I would appreciate it.
If you have any questions, please let us know. I frequently attend the Village Council meetings,
although neither Jean nor I will be available in May. By a-mail, I am copying the other members
of the Council with this letter. I can provide the IRS Determination letter granting us charitable
status if you need it.
Cordially,
Charles B. Fischer, Jr.
President and Founder
