Date: Janua y 8, 1999 Subject: Resolution No. 12-98/99 Designating Polling Locations, Election Officials, And Inspectors Of Election, And Establishing Election Procedures In The Event It Becomes Necessary To Conduct The Municipal Election/Annexation Referendum Scheduled To Be Held March 9, 1999, And The Municipal Run-Off Election, To Be Held March 23, 1999; Agenda Item This Resolution was prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 8 of the Village of Tequesta Code of Ordinances. The Resolution designates polling locations, election officials, inspectors of election, and establishes election procedures in the event it becomes necessary to conduct a Municipal Election/Annexation Referendum on Tuesday, March 9, 1999, and the Municipal Run-Off Election on Tuesday, March 23, 1999. Upon adoption of this Resolution by the Village Council, I will forward a certified copy of the same to the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office. Please place this Resolution on the Agenda for the Village Council Meeting scheduled for January 14, 1999, for consideration by the Village Council. Thank you. JM\ecr Encl. \MyFiles\Mango\Bradford 1-8-99 •• i V RESOLUTION NO. 12-98/99 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING POLLING LOCATIONS, ELECTION OFFICIALS, AND INSPECTORS OF ELECTION, AND ESTABLISHING ELECTION PROCEDURES IN THE EVENT IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO CONDUCT THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION/ANNEXATION REFERENDUM SCHEDULED TO BE HELD MARCH 9, 1999, AND THE MUNICIPAL RUN-OFF ELECTION, TO BE HELD ON MARCH 23, 1999. WHEREAS, the Village Council adopted the uniform filing and election dates as adopted previously by the Legislature of the State of Florida (House Bill 742), designating the second Tuesday in March as the uniform election date for any election relating to a municipal office; and designating a filing period for candidates for any municipal office in Palm Beach County from noon on the last Tuesday in January through and not later than noon on the second Tuesday in February of the calendar year; and WHEREAS, Section 2.01 of the Village Charter provides that Councilmembers shall be elected at large to Seats 2 and 4 in the odd years; and WHEREAS, Section 8 of the Village Code of Ordinances provides that Council may designate by Resolution polling locations, election officials, and inspectors of election, election procedures, and other incidentals required to conduct the Village Elections; and WHEREAS, the Village Council of the Village of Tequesta, desires to designate polling locations, election officials, and inspectors of election and establish election procedures in the event that it becomes necessary to conduct a Municipal Election/Annexation Referendum on March 9, 1999, and Municipal Run-Off Election on March 23, 1999. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA, FLORIDA: Section 1. Notice is hereby given that a Municipal Election/Annexation Referendum is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 9, 1999, and, if necessary, a Municipal Run-Off Election will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 1999. The polling locations* for Village of Tequesta voters will be: Precinct 002 - Village Hall - Council Chambers 357 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida Precinct 014 - Tequesta Recreation Center 399 Seabrook Road, Tequesta, Florida Notice is also hereby given that the Annexation Referendum, scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 9, 1999, is contingent upon final adoption of the Annexation Ordinance, ANNEXING INTO THE VILLAGE CERTAIN AREAS OF LAND; PROVIDING FOR A REFERENDUM ELECTION IN THE VILLAGE AND WITHIN THE AREA PROPOSED TO BE ANNEXED; The polling location* for voters in Area VI - County Line Road East of and Including the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) Right.-of-Way - proposed to be annexed will be: Precinct 1C - Church of the Good Shepherd 400 Seabrook Road, Tequesta, Florida * The polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Section 2. In accordance with the provisions of Section 8-2 (b) Village of Tequesta Code of Ordinances, the Village Clerk shall be the Clerk of Elections and shall supervise the conduct of the Municipal Election/Annexation Referendum/Run-Off Election in accordance with the State of Florida Election Laws and Village Ordinances. Section 3. The names of the designated inspectors of election for Precincts 002 and 014 will be chosen and appointed by the Village Clerk from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections' list of qualified poll workers residing in Tequesta. The names of the designated inspectors of election for Precinct 1C will be chosen, at the discretion of the Village Clerk, from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections' list of qualified poll workers, preferably having served in said precinct. Section 4. The Village Manager shall authorize payment of the inspectors of election per the rates in effect for poll workers of the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office in the event that said Municipal Election/Annexation Referendum/Run- Off Election is necessary. Section 5. Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Theresa LePore and Village of Tequesta Village Clerk Joann Manganiello are appointed members of the Village of Tequesta Canvassing Board for the purpose of conducting the Municipal Election/Annexation Referendum/Run-Off Election. Section 6.
