HomeMy WebLinkAboutHandouts_Regular_Tab 05_08/14/2008Dear Esteemed Committee, We would like to propose the construction and completion of an educational butterfly garden by the Girl Scout Troop 069 as our Gold Award Project. The garden would contain multiple types of plants and shrubs as well as a birdbath and 4 benches. We believe that a natural retreat is an essential part of any community and the butterfly garden can serve as both a place of meditation and of learning. We have planned to put up botanical name tags indicating types of plants in the garden and providing information on the local birds and insects. We also plan to create and produce informative brochures on the garden, distributing them to local elementary and middle schools, and also placing them in a waterproof box in the garden. By planning this educational aspect into the garden it is both recreational and informative. The butterfly garden is to be funded primarily by donations and constructed by volunteers. We will look to local nurseries for the plants and hardware stores for garden supplies. In order to fund the benches and the birdbath we will be selling engraved paving stones in the community. We look to place the butterfly garden in the Constitution Park, so that many children and citizens alike will enjoy it. The garden will be dedicated in memory of Ranger Frank of Camp Welaka. We appreciate your support in this endeavor and look forward to making this project effective as soon as possible. I believe this project will benefit the community and the environment in educating children and adults alike on our native flora and fauna.
