HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
THURSDAY, JUNE 5, 2008
1. Call to Order and Roll Call
The Village of Tequesta Historic Preservation Committee held a regularly scheduled
meeting at the Tequesta Village Hall, 345 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, Florida, on
Thursday, June 5, 2008. The meeting was called to order at 10:05 by Village Clerk
McWilliams who called the roll. Present were Dottie Campbell, Bethany Humpage, Lee
Resnik, Alice Klimas, Kathleen Smith, and Village Clerk Lori McWilliams.
2. Approval of Agenda
MOTION: Committee Member Klimas moved approval of the agenda; seconded by
Committee Member Campbell; motion carried unanimously 5-0.
3. Appointment of Chair
Committee Member Campbell nominated Bethany Humpage as Chair.
MOTION: Committee Member Resnik moved approval of Bethany Humpage as
Chair seconded by Committee Member Klimas; motion carried unanimously 5-0.
4. Appointment of Vice-Chair
Committee Member Klimas nominated Dottie Campbell as Vice-Chair.
MOTION: Committee Member Klimas moved approval of Dottie Campbell as Vice-
Chair, seconded by Committee Member Campbell; motion carried unanimously 5-0.
Vice-Chair Campbell provided an overview of the Committee Member's histories with
the Village.
(Items 5 and 6 were combined)
5. Discussion on Preservation of Historical Memorabilia and Proposed
Location for Items
6. Discussion on Historical Artwork for Village Hall
The following suggestions were made:
• Twenty-five years would be the standard for historical significance
• Use the pillars in the front lobby on both sides of the Indian picture to place
commemorative plaques with the names of Council Members, Mayors and
Village Boards and Committee volunteers.
• Use Sixberry for the plaques
• Display artwork on walls using gallery moldings (can be donated by Ms.
Campbell)
• Create a "Memory Lane" of special events near the water department (Girl
Scouts/Coastal Players/Naming of Silky the dolphin/Specimen Copy of Bonds
issued by the water department)
• Village Clerk to write letter to longtime residents requesting "I Remember
When..." -request quotes, old news articles, pictures, memorabilia of "Yesterday
and Today"
• Discussed purchasing a round display case for memorabilia for the front lobby
• Maintain a historical display a the old train station (nothing original)
• Create a "Yesterday and Today" display (Village Hall/Rood Landscape/Churches
celebrating anniversary/ferry Como/JTJC Building/Goodners/Publix 1,2,&3)
• Ms. Campbell has 500 feet of frame she could donate to use for picture frames
• Establish a Tequesta Library of cataloged items
• Locate a 1958 telephone book (Pat Kloiber)
• Ms. Smith will research Palm Beach County records at court house for old
building plans
• Discussed purchasing Village banners each with different sayings "Vote in
Tequesta", "Play in Tequesta", etc.) and suggested having residents donate
funds for individual banners
• Put a plaque on the golden fire plug with names of those who helped paint
• Approach Lighthouse Museum to see if they have anything historical for the
Village
• Request before and after pictures from residents and ask them to send in old
records and pictures
• Obtain copy of Jonathan Dickinson Journal
• Record audio of Bethany Humpage regarding her years as the first female
Tequesta Police Officer
• Obtain a working blue print of Village Hall
• Request history from local churches

7. Any Other Matters
Ms. McWilliams will send the list of names mentioned to the committee to proof the
spelling and the committee will submit to the Clerk contact information for those on the
list. The Clerk will write a letter requesting a short narrative from the individuals and will
request they donate memorabilia to the Village for historical purposes. The next
meeting will be Thursday, July 31, 2008 to allow time for the letter to go out and
residents to submit documents.
The Committee toured Village Hall.
8. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 12:00 p.m.
