VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA
MINUTES
SPECIAL PUBLIC MEETING HELD
DECEMBER 3, 1986
A special public meeting was held on Tuesday, December 3,
1986 at 9:30 A.M, at the Village Hall, 357 Tequesta Drive,
Tequesta, Florida to discuss Palm Beach County Library expansion
plans in Tequesta.
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 A.M.
Councilmembers present were: Carlton D. Stoddard, Mayor; Edward
C. Howell, Vice-Mayor; Members: Ron Mackail. Village Officials
present were: Thomas G. Bradford, Village Manager.
Mayor Stoddard opened the meeting by introducing the
members of the audience to Jerry Brownlee, Director of Palm Beach
County Library System. Mr. Brownlee reviewed the library branch
• history and the proposed program for Tequesta approved by the
voters on November 4, 1986 which includes the desire for a 4,000
square foot free standing building. The proposed budget for this
new library construction project is estimated to be 5500,000.00.
Mr. Brownlee also indicated that of the 8 to 9 projects to be
instigated by virtue of the new revenues to be received, that the
top priority for construction was for the Glades Road branch in
Boca Raton with the Tequesta construction being on the end of the
list based upon the demand in this area.
Mr. Brownlee further discussed some of the problems and
benefits associated with the provision of joint facilities, that
is, a combination library with additional uses such as a cultural
center, community center, or art gallery. The need for potential
user input and public planning was stressed. Mr. Brownlee further
suggested that a feasibility study should be undertaken to
professionally analyze the joint facility concept. It was
requested that Mr. Brownlee and the Village Manager meet to
discuss such a feasibility study.
After fielding various questions from those in attendance,
the meeting was adjourned at 11:00 A.M.
